IMP carries the name upon the famous, internationally recognized, scientist and scholar Mihajlo Idvorski Pupin 1854-1935 (an English version of his name is Michael Idvorsky Pupin), the Professor of the prestigious Columbia University in New York City, and the owner of numerous patents crucial in electrical signals transmission.  His legacy is not only his scientific work and numerous patents - he left a significant endowments, including the five store building of the Pupin Hall at Columbia Campus, still in daily use by generations of students, faculties, scholars and researchers.  The birth place of Mihailo Pupin at Idvor (cca. 35 miles north of Belgrade) is a popular visiting spot, and a common anniversary gathering place of the IMP's staff.  Check a video for more details.
